The following pages provide an insight into a brief unit history and information on the two main barrack's that the 5th Bn served in.
We have provided a brief history on the Battalion. This history is quite limited as there was little record kept on the unit, however the Irish Defence Forces Military Archives (http://www.militaryarchives.ie ) were a great help in providing documents and access to a wealth of knowledge.
We have also provided a short history on Collins Barracks and McKee Barracks. Both of these locations were part of the Battalions history.
Finally, we have included an insight into the North Longford Flying Column. Many of the officers and men used to form the 5th Inf Battalion had served in this historical Flying Column.
